#95: Donate Blood

When you donate blood, the nurses are eager to tell you that you saved three lives. Yes, you can save three whole lives by giving up a measly pint that your body will replace within hours. Really, the only thing donating blood requires from you is your time, and at three lives per 45 minutes, I hope most of us are able to make the time commitment on a regular basis.

Since finishing treatment, however, my blood is no longer accepted by the Canadian Blood Services. I'm not exactly sure of the science behind this reasoning, but several nurses have told me that at least for now, my blood cannot be given to patients who are in desperate need. Which is a shame, because not only was I one of the people who regularly donated, but I'm also the person who knows exactly how patients benefit from donations!

So, unfortunately, this is a resolution that I can't complete. Instead, I will challenge all my followers to try and complete it on my behalf, as well as the cancer survivors community's behalf.

It's no coincidence that the same person who is unable to donate, is the same person who is more likely to be in need of blood in the future. Be a hero - donate blood!
